A little for what ails you

Bleargh, I am sick. Have been struck down with a horrible throat infection that is sapping all my energy. I almost didn’t get around to posting today, but as I’d already taken the pictures before I was assailed with germs, I figured it would be an easy one.

To make it even easier, what follows is more of my birthday haul. This is A England Lady of Shallott, a dense navy blue shimmer in a blackened base. As with all A England polishes, the formula is perfect; smooth and incredibly easy to use, and what’s shown here is 2 coats with no top coat.

I’ve paired it up below with one coat of Nabi Purple Jumbo Glitter, which as you can clearly see is more like a holo or a multichrome glitter than just purple, even though it looks very purple in the bottle. I love this glitter, the colour shift is so clear and strong, I’ve been sitting around just wiggling my fingers, admiring all the pink, orange, yellow, green and even blue shifts. I expect the colour changes a bit based on what you wear underneath it, so I’ll play with some different shades at a later stage. The formula is pretty great too, you get a lot of glitter in one coat, and I didn’t have to dab it to get extra flakes on at all, which is a welcome change.

The only bad thing I have to say about this glitter is that OHMYGOD does it ever stink! Honestly, it’s by far and away the worst smelling polish I’ve ever used, it was like jet fuel, cat turd and vinegar had a really nasty smelling baby. Ergh. Won’t stop me using it though, cause it’s just so damn pretty!

Anyway, send me some get well vibes, and maybe I’ll even get around to building my lightbox soon. Fingers crossed!

What’s in a name?

I’m back! Did you miss me? It’s been a manic week. The celebrating of the young man’s birthday was excellent fun, and I spent a lot of time playing with my new camera, taking pictures of cute fluffy things, and then I accidentally fell asleep on him in the car home. But still, a good day was definitely had by all.

I ended up not having time to do the leopard print mani I had planned, so I went with a polish I’ve been dying to try out since it arrived.

This is A England Avalon (£9/a-england.co.uk), which of course I had to buy because it literally has my name written all over it! It’s a rich, warm, sparkly purple shimmer with pinky tones, and it is utterly stunning. I used 2 coats here, and the formula is beautifully consistent; not to mention that it lasted for nearly 5 whole days, which included a trip to the zoo! I had high hopes for this when I ordered it, and I have not been disappointed in the slightest. I’m so proud to share my name with this gorgeous polish, which is now my new favourite purple!

In other news, I had to take my lip piercing out last night. It’s had a nasty infection in it for a few days now, and I just couldn’t take the pain anymore. I’m sad to lose it, but also a little relieved, as it never looked quite the way I wanted it to. It’s only the second time in my life I’ve had to retire a piercing, and the last time was almost 20 years ago, so it feels rather momentous! I’m definitely not done with my body mods though – I’m hoping to get some new ink around the New Year, if I can scrape the cash together.

Coming up on the blog: Eye Candy and Color Club duochromes, Maybelline Color Show Vintage Leather Effects, and more of my birthday haul!

What a saint, indeed!

stgeorgeHere we have another of my birthday polishes, the stunning Saint George by A England. I simple cannot put into words how beautiful this polish is, a deep rich green holo with plenty of sparkle and an incredible formula that made it one of the nicest polishes I’ve used probably all year! My swatch does not do it justice at all, I really can’t stop looking at it. It really only needed one coat, but I used two anyway, as I wasn’t very precise with my first. If you are a fan of holos or green polishes, you are missing a trick if you don’t own this shade!

In other news, I have picked up some lovely treatments for my hands this week. I got treatmentsBurt’s Bees Lemon Butter Cuticle Cream (£5.99 for 15g/Boots), which I haven’t tried yet, but I’ve heard great things about. I also got Sanctuary Hand and Cuticle Scrub (£6 for 75ml/Boots), which is an exfoliating scrub that left my hands feeling lovely and smooth and well massaged, would definitely give it a go if you have dry or rough skin problems. And finally, Soap & Glory Hand Food (£5 for 125ml/Boots), which might just be the silkiest, softest hand lotion I have ever used. I adore it, and it just happens to smell delicious as well! Highly recommended, whatever your skin type.

…And better news!

So, as I said in my last post, it was my birthday party yesterday, which was utterly fabulous. The weather was gorgeous, I got to see loads of my brilliant friends, and we had a bunch of yummy food, booze, watched a double feature of Indiana Jones (Raiders and Crusade) and a jolly good time was had by all. But I have to say, it topped all other birthday parties, in that a bunch of my friends got together and bought me the most excellent present ever… and I’m gonna need to build a new polish wishlist, because they got me almost everything off it, plus a few things I didn’t even know I wanted! Yes, really!

Seriously, just look at this haul! I could not have asked for a better gift, and even better, there are still 2 more polishes to come! I had a bit to drink yesterday (duh), so I can’t quite remember which ones they are, but I’m sure they’ll be utterly amazing, just like everything else here. Seriously, I am so stoked with this, it was incredibly thoughtful, and I want to give extra special thanks to Denny for having the idea in the first place and rounding up contributors, and to Emma for doing all the research, hunting, and gathering, which must have been quite a task. Of course, mega thanks also go to EJ, Helen, Kath, Mat, Pir, Poggs, Sarah, Stu, Ursula and Red for chipping in. I am completely blown away by this wonderful gift, and I couldn’t be happier right now to know the people I do.

I am truly blessed to have such wonderful friends, and I love you all very much. I am going to have so much fun with all these!
