Northern lights

I did it again, didn’t I? I promised I wouldn’t disappear and then I did! I’m not very sorry, because I’ve been terribly busy with my new boyfriend and slightly less new job, and I’m still not buying any new polish anyway. However, my nails have now returned to a considerably more sensible length, and I’ve been dying to show off my most extravagant purchase of the year so far!

This is the stunning limited edition piCture pOlish Aurora (18.50EUR/prettypolish.nl). I had to order it from the Dutch website, as the first run was sold out everywhere else that shipped to the UK, and I just had to have it. Luckily, I was able to arm myself with Google Translate, and after that, it was quite a straightforward process.

Aurora is a stunning glittery purple/pink/turquoise multichrome, which I’m wearing over black, as I now routinely do with all thin multichromes. The colour shift is very strong, and the glitter particles are so eye-catching. Here’s 2 coats over Revlon Knockout.

This was my pre-Lent blowout polish, and honestly, I think it’s worth every penny! You can see the other polishes in this limited collection on at piCture pOlish.

Throwback Thursday

I’ve been away from home for a few days, so I’m really out of step with my manicures, so this is a bit of a cheat post, but I’ll be back to new things soon. Besides, I have been intending to re-swatch this polish for ages, and now I finally have, and it has only strengthened my love for it!

This is HITS Mari Moon Cutie Pie, a Brazilian multichrome that I picked up from Llarowe for my birthday last year. I used 2 coats over black (Revlon Knockout) this time, which is starting to become my default for multichromes and thin duochromes, and it makes the colour shift so much more dramatic.

This is really doing nothing to cure my addiction to multichromes… I must have more!

Independent woman

I know, I know, I said I’d never do indie brands. I was weak and I couldn’t resist, I’m sorry! If it’s any consolation, I completely blew my polish budget for about the next 3 months on them. Worth every single penny though! The following two polishes are from the newly rebranded Polish Me Silly Multichromes collection. I could only afford two, so these are the ones I chose; all swatches shown here are 2 coats over black.

First up is Love The Hue (£16.41 for 2 including postage from the US/Etsy), which is a purple/pink/blue/turquoise multichrome. It is utterly stunning, and the shift is really visible. Unfortunately, I did a rotten job on the photos for this one, but you can get a sense of the effect.

The other one is Guilty Pleasure, a blue/pink/red/orange multichrome. You can see the shift much better in these shots, and just like it’s predecessor, it was glorious. My photos make it hard to see the difference between them, but it’s definitely there.

I really can’t say enough good things about these shades. The formula is incredibly thin, but given it looks so great over black, I don’t think I’ll use them up too fast. If you’re interested in some much better photos and the rest of the collection, pop on over to Very Emily’s posts; part one, part two and part three (which features the polishes I chose). Both her swatches and her nails are about a million times better than mine anyway!

Back to the non-indie brands next post, I promise; I’ve got some fab stuff from Barielle, L’Oreal and Sally Hansen to show off. Also coming soon, a big post that doesn’t feature any nail polish, in case the rest of my accessorizing and nail care is of any interest to my readers. Oh, and PS… I’m on Instagram now! I’ll be using it for polish teasers and also the odd glance into my general style and so forth. See the link in the sidebar, or check me out here: @manimancy. Cheers!

I’m back! Did you miss me? It’s been a manic week. The celebrating of the young man’s birthday was excellent fun, and I spent a lot of time playing with my new camera, taking pictures of cute fluffy things, and then I accidentally fell asleep on him in the car home. But still, a good day was definitely had by all.

I ended up not having time to do the leopard print mani I had planned, so I went with a polish I’ve been dying to try out since it arrived.

This is A England Avalon (£9/a-england.co.uk), which of course I had to buy because it literally has my name written all over it! It’s a rich, warm, sparkly purple shimmer with pinky tones, and it is utterly stunning. I used 2 coats here, and the formula is beautifully consistent; not to mention that it lasted for nearly 5 whole days, which included a trip to the zoo! I had high hopes for this when I ordered it, and I have not been disappointed in the slightest. I’m so proud to share my name with this gorgeous polish, which is now my new favourite purple!

In other news, I had to take my lip piercing out last night. It’s had a nasty infection in it for a few days now, and I just couldn’t take the pain anymore. I’m sad to lose it, but also a little relieved, as it never looked quite the way I wanted it to. It’s only the second time in my life I’ve had to retire a piercing, and the last time was almost 20 years ago, so it feels rather momentous! I’m definitely not done with my body mods though – I’m hoping to get some new ink around the New Year, if I can scrape the cash together.

Coming up on the blog: Eye Candy and Color Club duochromes, Maybelline Color Show Vintage Leather Effects, and more of my birthday haul!

Good news…

cutiepieOK, I’m back on the swatch wagon. My nails are still stubby and my fingers are a mess, but I don’t care, because it was my birthday party yesterday, and I couldn’t go without something on my nails. I feel naked without my mani! There will be a big post about my birthday shortly following this one, but first, this is what I wore for my party, HITS Mari Moon Cutie Pie (around £8.50 including shipping/llarowe.com). This stunning multichrome has got at least 5 different colours in it, most obvious are the purple and turquoise, but I also see gold, blue and pink in it under certain light. It’s quite thin, but 3 coats gave nice coverage, and it’s holding pretty well, so the formula is good quality. I will definitely be wearing this beaut again when my nails are longer.

Watch this space for my epic birthday haul post, coming right up!

It’s Twofer Tuesday!

No, this won’t be a running theme, I don’t think, but it’s been a hectic few days what with a seriously busy weekend and one of my aging moggies needing a visit to the vet for suspected lungworm. Anyway, things seem to have calmed down a bit now, so here’s what I’ve been doing with my nails. Apologies for the useless pics, my phonecam is not playing nice with me at the moment.

chunkyholoblackOn the left, we have Kleancolor’s Chunky Holo Black (around £5/eBay), over TurquoiseMaybelline Purple Trend (£2.60/eBay seller: Cosmetics-Fairy), neither of which excited me very much, but the coverage was solid for both (one coat each), so it’s just personal taste on the colour.

And on the right, inspired by the dichroic glass of my favourite pendant, Nicole by OPI’s Turquoise Texture (£7.99/Superdrug) over Maybelline MNY 665 (£1.99/eBay seller: xtrasdiscountstore). Now this is a look I love, two coats of a cool navy blue, with the gorgeous crackle of the Turquoise (which looks much bluer than it is unfortunately). Annoyingly, the tips started to wear really fast, though I haven’t exactly looked after my hands today. Too busy looking after a poorly cat to worry about my nails too much!

With any luck, life will stop kicking my arse for a bit soon, which will give me far more time to play dress up with my fingers.

It was bound to happen sooner or later.

Alas, mIMG_20130610_122925y first poor review. Today’s nails are Rainfall Trio by Andrea Fulerton (£7.99/Superdrug). With the Trio collection, you get two polishes in a flipstick, which can be worn on their own or layered over one another. I have to say, I am quite disappointed. The formula is thick and claggy, making it difficult to get even coverage; in the picture there are 4 coats (2 of each layer) and it still looks a bit patchy. Also, when the blue flaky polish is layered over the teal, the colour difference is very subtle, and not at all as dramatic as I’d hoped (see the difference between my middle finger and the others). Additionally, it took a very long time to dry.

I will keep it, as I suspect the dark flaky polish will look reasonably good layered over a black, but I definitely won’t be buying anymore polishes from this range, which is very disappointing given how much I like the Andrea Fulteron Gemstone Overcoat. I was hoping for good things from this brand, considering the price, but it did not deliver. Ah well. Onwards to better things!
