Northern lights

I did it again, didn’t I? I promised I wouldn’t disappear and then I did! I’m not very sorry, because I’ve been terribly busy with my new boyfriend and slightly less new job, and I’m still not buying any new polish anyway. However, my nails have now returned to a considerably more sensible length, and I’ve been dying to show off my most extravagant purchase of the year so far!

This is the stunning limited edition piCture pOlish Aurora (18.50EUR/prettypolish.nl). I had to order it from the Dutch website, as the first run was sold out everywhere else that shipped to the UK, and I just had to have it. Luckily, I was able to arm myself with Google Translate, and after that, it was quite a straightforward process.

Aurora is a stunning glittery purple/pink/turquoise multichrome, which I’m wearing over black, as I now routinely do with all thin multichromes. The colour shift is very strong, and the glitter particles are so eye-catching. Here’s 2 coats over Revlon Knockout.

This was my pre-Lent blowout polish, and honestly, I think it’s worth every penny! You can see the other polishes in this limited collection on at piCture pOlish.

Independent woman

I know, I know, I said I’d never do indie brands. I was weak and I couldn’t resist, I’m sorry! If it’s any consolation, I completely blew my polish budget for about the next 3 months on them. Worth every single penny though! The following two polishes are from the newly rebranded Polish Me Silly Multichromes collection. I could only afford two, so these are the ones I chose; all swatches shown here are 2 coats over black.

First up is Love The Hue (£16.41 for 2 including postage from the US/Etsy), which is a purple/pink/blue/turquoise multichrome. It is utterly stunning, and the shift is really visible. Unfortunately, I did a rotten job on the photos for this one, but you can get a sense of the effect.

The other one is Guilty Pleasure, a blue/pink/red/orange multichrome. You can see the shift much better in these shots, and just like it’s predecessor, it was glorious. My photos make it hard to see the difference between them, but it’s definitely there.

I really can’t say enough good things about these shades. The formula is incredibly thin, but given it looks so great over black, I don’t think I’ll use them up too fast. If you’re interested in some much better photos and the rest of the collection, pop on over to Very Emily’s posts; part one, part two and part three (which features the polishes I chose). Both her swatches and her nails are about a million times better than mine anyway!

Back to the non-indie brands next post, I promise; I’ve got some fab stuff from Barielle, L’Oreal and Sally Hansen to show off. Also coming soon, a big post that doesn’t feature any nail polish, in case the rest of my accessorizing and nail care is of any interest to my readers. Oh, and PS… I’m on Instagram now! I’ll be using it for polish teasers and also the odd glance into my general style and so forth. See the link in the sidebar, or check me out here: @manimancy. Cheers!

Duochrome Dots

I tried so hard to get a few decent photos of this mani, but still no lightbox and terrible weather, so couldn’t quite get the lighting right. But this one shot came out OK, and you can kinda see what I’m going for. This is Revlon Blackout, mottled with different sized dots of Rimmel Purple Reign (a sheer purple/red duochrome) and Royal Blue (a sheer purple/turquoise duochrome), both from the Metal Rush collection. Everything came courtesy of my local Poundland once again, aside from the dotting tools, which were a few pounds for 5 on eBay.

For some reason, it reminds me of those old velvet clown paintings. I should’ve tried mattifying it to see if that added another dimension to it!

Blue’s Twos

Whoops! Have gotten a bit behind in the ol’ blogging. Been a bit busy with one thing or another, so there’s still a huge backlog. My nails are almost long enough to need cutting back for a while, but damn, even though they’re sharp and it’s a pain to type, I do love them to bits when they’re long!

Anyway, here we have two coats of Color Club Masquerading (£7.99 for 7/TMaxx), a metallic steel blue, underneath a single layer of Barielle Jillian’s Jammin’ (£9.99 for 5/TKMaxx), a sheer turquoise/violet duochrome shimmer. The shift is really hard to capture, but it’s definitely there, and very cute.

I think you can just about see the violet tone in the second picture. The good hours for natural light are fading now, so I really have to get my lightbox set up soon, otherwise I’ll never get any good photos taken!

All outta angst

2nd attempt at posting this. The crappy internet at my mother’s place ate the first go! Grr.

shanghainights(1)Anyway, I’m still away from home and all my creature comforts, but I couldn’t wait to try out H&M Shanghai Nights (£2.99/exclusive to H&M), which is a gorgeous cool turquoise with a blue/violet shimmer. The violet is impossible to capture with my camera, but it’s definitely there, though very subtle, and much stronger in the bottle than on the nail sadly. Either way this is still a beautiful polish, 2 coats for full coverage and reasonable drying time. Looking forward to trying this one again with proper base and top coat, and longer nails!

PS. Never forget to check your local discount stores – today I picked up two Sally Hansen treatments (InstaGrip Fast Dry Base Coat and Continuous Treatment Strength) for £2 each in a B&M Store – they usually retail for £5-7 each!

It’s Twofer Tuesday!

No, this won’t be a running theme, I don’t think, but it’s been a hectic few days what with a seriously busy weekend and one of my aging moggies needing a visit to the vet for suspected lungworm. Anyway, things seem to have calmed down a bit now, so here’s what I’ve been doing with my nails. Apologies for the useless pics, my phonecam is not playing nice with me at the moment.

chunkyholoblackOn the left, we have Kleancolor’s Chunky Holo Black (around £5/eBay), over TurquoiseMaybelline Purple Trend (£2.60/eBay seller: Cosmetics-Fairy), neither of which excited me very much, but the coverage was solid for both (one coat each), so it’s just personal taste on the colour.

And on the right, inspired by the dichroic glass of my favourite pendant, Nicole by OPI’s Turquoise Texture (£7.99/Superdrug) over Maybelline MNY 665 (£1.99/eBay seller: xtrasdiscountstore). Now this is a look I love, two coats of a cool navy blue, with the gorgeous crackle of the Turquoise (which looks much bluer than it is unfortunately). Annoyingly, the tips started to wear really fast, though I haven’t exactly looked after my hands today. Too busy looking after a poorly cat to worry about my nails too much!

With any luck, life will stop kicking my arse for a bit soon, which will give me far more time to play dress up with my fingers.
